EDUCITY Advantage for Students at the University of Reading Malaysia

When choosing a university, the top three priorities for both students and parents alike are usually as follows, 1) an interest in the area of study, 2) good career prospects and 3) the location. Despite not being that well-known among Malaysians, Educity, where the University of Reading Malaysia is located, is an ideal environment for students .

Educity is a strategic government initiative to establish a premier education hub in the thriving Iskandar region of Johor. The University of Reading Malaysia, an international branch campus of the University of Reading, UK, is one of eight institutions operating in Educity. Educity allows students to balance serious academic study and social life without the hassle and cost of living in a big city.

The University of Reading Malaysia first opened the doors to its stunning campus on Educity in 2015. Its award-winning campus is a spacious, modern facility that houses IT-enabled classrooms, lecture theatre, learning resource centre and student social areas all under one roof. The campus also includes specialised labs such as a financial dealing room and BIM (business information modelling) lounge which is fitted out with the latest technology. Superfast wi-fi is available throughout the campus, so students have no problem catching up with friends on Facebook! The campus has round-the-clock security and there is ample parking.

Students at Educity can take advantage of the world-class sports facilities which include an Olympic swimming pool, diving pool, running track, indoor stadium and fitness centre. There’s really no excuse for students not to exercise and adopt a healthy lifestyle, especially when students pay a discounted fee to make use of such facilities. Plans are afoot to expand the sports facilities even more.

A new Student Hub that will be ready at the start of the new academic year will provide additional space for students to chill and hangout. The hub will be accessible to students round-the-clock, 24 hours a day, and will include study areas as well as social areas such as a music jam room and lounge. Several eateries, including McDonalds, located at the Student hub means that students will not go hungry.

There are plentiful and affordable accommodation options in and within walking distance to Educity. Students can choose to stay at the International Student Village on Educity itself or nearby service apartments like EcoNest that provide condo-style living with swimming pool and facilities.

There is a free shuttle bus that services the campus and surrounding areas within Johor. Educity does not suffer from the same kind of traffic woes found in KL and other big cities, so students who drive will not find themselves wasting time sitting in traffic jams.

At weekends, students have a huge choice of shopping malls in Johor, including Toppen located next to the IKEA furniture store and Paradigm mall. For recreation, there is Legoland, Desaru resort and other attractions close by. Singapore is less than 25 minutes away by shuttle bus.

About the University of Reading, Malaysia Campus
