Pick the right path to academic success
Gaining a top class qualification and achieving career success is often at the forefront of parents and students’ minds when considering which higher education provider to choose. Whether you’re a parent or student in search of a quality tertiary institution, there is no substitute for reputation. A foundation programme or undergraduate degree from the University of Reading is a trusted mark of academic achievement and the starting point of a satisfying and rewarding career.
If studying in the UK is too far from home or out of your budget, the University of Reading’s Malaysia campus offers students the same excellent standard of higher education as its parent campus in the UK. The University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) is located in EduCity, in the heart of the fast developing economic region known as Iskandar Puteri, in Johor and a short drive from the Second Link to Singapore. With a rich heritage dating back over 150 years, the University of Reading, together with the world-leading Henley Business School, which has been operating for over 70 years, is ranked among the top 200 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2018. Its long established reputation for academic excellence and student support means that well motivated and hard-working students will be equipped for academic success.
Rewarding excellence
The University of Reading rewards the brightest and best students at all its campuses by offering a range of generous scholarships, bursaries and fee discounts. Students who demonstrate exemplary academic ability and results will automatically receive generous scholarships when they enrol in a foundation programme or undergraduate degree. Students are also eligible for the Provost’s Award which offers the top, high achieving students the equivalent of a 100 percent scholarship towards their fees. Students who perform well at foundation level and progress to an undergraduate degree at UoRM are also eligible for a variety of High Achiever’s Scholarships. Domestic students are also eligible to apply for a wide range of external scholarships being offered by organisations including Khazanah Watan, Great Eastern, Gamuda Land, The Edge, and The Star.
Fast-track your way to a top-class British degree
For students who are looking for an alternative to A-Levels or STPM, they can opt for a faster route to an undergraduate degree. The Foundation Programmes at UoRM are one-year intensive courses, tailored to prepare students academically and socially to pursue an undergraduate degree. The Programmes open doors to a wide range of pathways and are tailored with each student’s future degree in mind. Prospective students can choose to study either a Foundation in Business or Foundation in Science. Both courses include Academic Skills, a module that prepares students for the challenges and rigours of a degree, with guidance and support provided by tutors. Once students have successfully completed a Foundation Programme, they can progress to one of UoRM’s internationally renowned undergraduate degree programmes, at either the Malaysia campus or in the UK.

First year pharmacy student, Chang Jung Hoon (Chang), completed the Foundation in Science before entering the University’s MPharm 2+2 pharmacy degree. The 20 year-old, says the course helped him progress to undergraduate level. “Most of the topics covered at foundation level were helpful in preparing me for my degree as I learnt something new that related to the topic, such as organs and their mechanisms in performing their necessary actions.”
Get the Best of Both Worlds
UoRM is one of very few institutions in Malaysia that offers students the best of both worlds – the chance to study a prestigious British qualification, delivered by expert academics, on Malaysian soil. Tuition fees are set at Malaysian Ringgit, meaning students can potentially save tens-of-thousands in international fees if they choose to study in the UK. Uniquely, UoRM offers students the opportunity to complete part of their degree at the UK campus in Reading, which gives them the opportunity to experience a different culture, network with peers from abroad and learn from a wider pool of educators. This means getting a British degree with UK study experience is more flexible, accessible and affordable than ever before.
“It is indeed a great opportunity for me and anyone else to experience a British education in Malaysia, with cheaper fees. The facilities are also good and I always feel glad that I am able to study in this kind of environment,” declares Chang, who is an international student from South Korea. He adds that the facilities and high calibre of teaching staff at UoRM make it an environment optimal for learning. “I did some research on several degrees from at different universities, compared them, and finally concluded that the University of Reading’s pharmacy course was one of the best choices for my future.”
The programmes taught at UoRM have the same content as those delivered at the UK campus, meaning UoRM students who wish to study part of their degree in the UK, can do so with ease. Students who complete their studies at UoRM will be rewarded their qualification by the University of Reading, UK, meaning they will have a globally recognised degree and the opportunity to work within Malaysia and abroad. Students can choose from a variety of degrees, which include pharmacy, psychology, quantity surveying, building surveying, construction management, real estate, accounting and finance, finance and business management, and business and management. The University also offers graduates who aspire to be experts in Islamic Finance, the opportunity to embark on a Master’s degree in Investment Banking and Islamic Finance – a one year, full-time programme designed to take students to the next level in these two disciplines.
