First aider organisations in the society are playing crucial roles to serve and preserve human life. From local institution events to public campaigns, they can be always seen on duty. In most cases, they also assist in the medical field to provide human resource, basic medical treatment, comfort patients and assessing signs and symptoms.
On the contrary, medical treatments covers slightly wider spectrum such as disease research, clinical skills, and human anatomy, which contribute to the medical organisations plus providing proper treatments to the patients.
First aid and medical treatment have closer relationships and more or less similar in terms of treatments. However, there is also a fine line that draws them apart, be it in characteristics or the responsibilities.

1.Treatment
A medical professional provides analyses arising symptoms of illnesses and provides treatment for diseases. Whereas, a first aider gives a less complicated treatment to minor injuries to minimise the seriousness of the injuries, which includes bandaging, comforting the casualties, and accessing the casualty’s safety.
2.Responsibility
Doctors and nurses in the medical field carry a higher responsibility compared to the first aiders. First aiders are only required to provide the first immediate treatment to the casualties to prevent the worsening of the injuries before the arriving at the hospital for further actions. Medical professionals take over the responsibility from the first aiders thereafter and continue providing treatment and care until the patient recovers.
3. Working Flexibility
Even though a medical professional and a first aider are somewhat similar in characteristics, the tasks and work distributions are differentiated by their schedule and the time. First aider is mostly dependent on the time of assignment by first aid group they represent; hence their working hours are more flexible. On the other hand, a medical professional works around a fixed time schedule, that might require them to also be on-call for any emergency cases at times.
4.Learnings
Medical professionals have had an in-depth understanding for the field as they cover human anatomy, pharmacy, medicine, and neuroscience. They can also choose to be a specialist in any desired field. Comparatively, first aiders only learn the basics of a treatment. The courses they are exposed to are mostly the fundamental clinical where it is more focused on cutting down the signs and symptoms of the casualties.
