Known for developing a high proficiency in technical laboratory and research skills, biomedical sciences graduates can opt for careers such as toxicologists, laboratory technicians which are of relevance to the significant rise in the field of research and development in medical and biomedical fields. Besides that, there is also a vast opportunity for graduates in roles like haematologist, scientist, immunologist, microbiologist, and cytogeneticist which aligns to the field of research, development, and academics.

Biomedical sciences at NUMed
Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) offers a 2+1 BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences degree. It encompasses two academic years at NUMed, Johor, mirroring the course studied at Newcastle University, UK, and the final academic year in the UK, with research-led teaching and an intensive research project in one of the highly regarded institutes at the Newcastle University Medical School.
While entering an exciting new phase in its research development, the programmes offered in NUMed also feeds off Newcastle University UK’s well-established excellence in translational and education research. The university’s research focus is also congruent to the one biomedical research field that is relatively active in Malaysia which is the cancer research.

Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) has been gradually producing successful batches of biomedical graduates who are indulging into various sectors of the global economy. NUMed graduate Sylvia Liu who is currently a research assistant at the university believes that NUMed has carved a promising pathway for her to achieve her ambition.
‘I have always believed that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. That is why I choose to embrace my current role as a research assistant here in NUMed as I see it as a stepping stone toward fulfilling my ambition to be scientist,’ expressed Sylvia.
Aside from acing them into the job industry, NUMed also provides its students the opportunity to further engage themselves in several growing internal research projects through their mindful Graduate Research Fellowship Programme.
‘The Graduate Research Fellowship Programme allowed me to delve into my research interest and I have also received constant guidance and support from the knowledgeable supervisors and lecturers,’ said Naveen, a grateful recipient of the fellowship opportunity.
