The Making of Future-Ready Graduates
Recent studies and research on job portals have named biomedical sciences as one of the most demanded careers in Malaysia [[1]] [[2]]. A study that is gravitated toward research-oriented and lab-based tasks, this course prepares the individual to further indulge into human physiology in health and diseases besides getting hands-on experience in managing laboratory techniques.
Jobs in the Field
Known for developing a high proficiency in technical laboratory and research skills, biomedical sciences graduates can opt for careers such as toxicologists, laboratory technicians which are of relevance to the significant rise in the field of research and development in medical and biomedical fields. Besides that, there is also a vast opportunity for graduates in roles like haematologist, scientist, immunologist, microbiologist, and cytogeneticist which aligns to the field of research, development, and academics.
However, in a wider perspective, biomedical sciences can also be addressed as a call for the analytical minds. This is mainly due to the fact that the skills and knowledge learned through this course are transferable to almost any industry. One of the skills refers to the most commonly sought-after critical thinking ability that has the potential to position an individual as a stand-out candidate outside the realm of biomedical science.
Biomedical sciences at NUMed
Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) offers a 2+1 BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences degree. It encompasses two academic years at NUMed, Johor, mirroring the course studied at Newcastle University, UK, and the final academic year in the UK, with research-led teaching and an intensive research project in one of the highly regarded institutes at the Newcastle University Medical School.
While entering an exciting new phase in its research development, the programmes offered in NUMed also feeds off Newcastle University UK’s well-established excellence in translational and education research. The university’s research focus is also congruent to the one biomedical research field that is relatively active in Malaysia which is the cancer research.
From the Alumni
Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) has been gradually producing successful batches of biomedical graduates who are indulging into various sectors of the global economy.
