Providing an Exceptional Educational Experience
Children are innately inquisitive and filled with wonder. We need to take advantage of this to not only provide them with a sound academic basis but also – and perhaps more importantly so – to help inculcate in them a love for learning, particularly during their formative years.
At Shattuck-St. Mary’s Forest City International School, an amalgam of tried-and-true creative teaching methodologies is employed to create a vibrant learning environment for your child from the moment they set foot there.
“We aspire to go beyond a traditional setting to provide our students with an exceptional educational experience that is both enriching and relevant,” said Head of School Graham Gamble.
Albert Einstein once declared that “play is the highest form of research,” and this becomes a central approach used to engage and inspire the school’s youngest learners. In line with this, the Early Childhood program provides a myriad of opportunities for the children to explore their environment and interact with their peers as they build their social and academic skills.
“We perceive each and every child as strong, capable and resilient individuals. Our program focuses on their needs and interests to enable them to grow holistically,” explained the school’s Early Childhood Principal, Meg Brainard.
As the children move up to the elementary level, they are encouraged to continue exploring the world and their interests in a wide range of areas, including STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and athletics, in addition to further solidifying their foundation in literacy and numeracy.
According to the Elementary School Principal, Wayne Burnett, “Our Elementary School is based on two vital pillars. First, we provide a strong foundation in English and Mathematics. Second, we encourage practical innovation and creative thought.”
In recognizing that education does not only occur within the four walls of the classroom, Shattuck-St. Mary’s Forest City International School offers plenty of opportunities for the children to enhance their potential.
Among others, the school features a state-of-the-art two-story weCreate Center, which offers innovative spaces and technologies to help students pursue their passions in fields that include robotics, electronics, architecture, music, filmmaking, photography, designing and more.
Students are also given opportunities to engage in experiential and service learning. This encompasses field trips where they get to actively learn on site and community projects which let them contribute back to society.
The development of leadership skills is prioritized as well. In a bid to nurture its students to become leaders of the future, the school offers various avenues for students to hone their skills by partaking in Student Council as well as other forums and roles. These are complemented by leadership development programs.
“We understand that children learn in different ways. Hence, our curriculum and learning programs are designed to meet their individual needs while reflecting a unified vision of education for the whole child,” concluded Gamble.
