Heriot-Watt University Malaysia

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia is the Southeast Asian campus of Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. The university has a long prestigious history dating back to 1821 and is the world’s first mechanics’ institute. It is highly regarded for it’s innovative and world-class education and pioneering research. The university is ranked 41st in the world by Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018 for international outlook and the 9th university in the UK and 1st in Scotland for research impact. Heriot-Watt University Malaysia was established in September 2014 and located in Putrajaya, 25km from Kuala Lumpur. It’s stunning green lakeside campus’ unique dynamic design is a testament to the university’s dedication to innovation. The Malaysian campus offers foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the fields of Engineering, Actuarial Science, Business Management, Accounting, Construction and Psychology.


Built on a vast 4.8 acres, with a scenic lakeside location, the exciting ‘green campus’ features a living grass roof.It shades the naturally ventilated spaces below, reduces thermal transmittance, and acts as an observation deck, accessible by glass lift.


Heriot-Watt Malaysia has an active student body with more than 30 student associations and clubs ranging from sports-based clubs to hobby-centered ones. Year round events are held for students to showcase and cultivate their passions.

Student Life

The large number of active student clubs and societies form a vibrant, strong and ever growing community. A number of volunteering programs are also organised by the students under the Foundation Programme Volunteering Club and The Leo Club of UoRM.
