How NUMed Students Are Better Equipped For Future Careers
At Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia’s (NUMed) lively multicultural campus, students can be sure that their course of study is not only building them for a professional career, but also providing a balanced learning experience. According to Libby Emerson, an exchange student from Newcastle University, UK, “I have had an amazing time getting to know the students here, being able to appreciate cultural differences and the way that medicine is delivered, and also travelling in my spare time. It has been an interesting and valuable experience!”
NUMed is the first fully owned international branch campus of Newcastle University, UK, one of the best British universities for medicine according to The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 and The Complete University Guide 2018. In addition to its commitment to providing academic excellence, the university regularly organises a host of activities for its students to enable their holistic development.
At the university’s recent annual Health Camp, students created awareness on obesity through a health fair which also offered villagers vital healthcare services. This has not only increased the students’ social welfare consciousness, but helped them gain first-hand exposure and practical knowledge.
Cultural Fest and NUMed Games are two of the university’s other extra-curricular activities that foster teamwork, leadership and social skills, among others, while the Newcastle International Change-makers of Tomorrow (NICOT), an inter-university competition, helps empower students to become leaders and initiators in solving the world’s leading issues.

Besides this, students are taught all aspects of professionalism and compassion, with great emphasis on good communication skills. These skills are honed through practical lessons such as role-play and guided teaching. The university believes that these skills will help the students to be adept at patient care – whether in building trust, being empathetic or managing crises, thus preparing them for their future careers.
NUMed prides itself in providing the highest quality, well-rounded medical education through a modern, case-based approach with extensive practical experience. With its outstanding facilities, students are provided with the necessary knowledge to handle the latest technologies and advancements in medicine. These include artefact handling, laboratory work, science based lab classes, IT workshops and case-based classes in a wide range of disciplines, allowing them to develop their proficiency in practical work. This way, students will find themselves sufficiently equipped as they embark upon the working world.
NUMed offers a range of foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Medicine and Biomedical Science. Visit its campus in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, during its upcoming Open Days on 16 & 23 March 2019 or log on to https://www.ncl.ac.uk/numed/ to find out more.
