Unique Features

Boarding as an Education

Boarding is an integral part of Westlake International School. Through the boarding experience, boarders learn to become independent and are given ample opportunities to develop integrity and strengthen emotional intelligence.

The boarding house upholds a culture of discipline. Boarders as young as 12 years old are taught time management and self-management. Boarders are entrusted with the privilege of making decisions daily with the guidance of their boarding house parents. Boarders develop integrity through learning to be a trustworthy friend to others and to do the right thing even when no one is looking.

The boarding house is a place where character is built, long lasting friendship forged and academic pursuits are balanced with the pursuit of talent within every boarder.

Character and Career Education

Westlake International School is passionate about developing the intrinsic social development of students. In the classroom, WIS focuses on character building; conducting projects which help students develop their awareness and consciousness to help the community around them. In the Upper Secondary, WIS provides career guidance and enlightens students as the teachers assist them in focusing their passion to their desired vocation.

Students from Years 6 to 10 embark on a Personal & Social Development Camp that focuses on building independence, courage, resilience and positive mindset. Each year, the students will take on challenging camps with different themes that fits the requirements of the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award.

To equip students better, WIS have recently launched the High Achievers Award which encourages students to be actively involved in exchange programs, internships, conferences and enrichment programs as the school aims for admission into one of the Top 50 Universities in the world. There is a strong motivation for them to be zealous in these extracurricular activities besides academic excellence.
